Green Beans Your Kids Will Inhale

The other night while visiting my sister Winny, the topic of green beans came up.

It all started when I gave her a bottle of Wildtree Roasted Garlic Grapeseed Oil that I got from a neighborhood party. It sparked the recent memory of a recipe she found somewhere online while researching ways to make veggies more appealing to an admitted “vegetable-hater.”

She went on to rave about the quick and easy method of heating up a small amount oil, and frying up some frozen green beans, directly from the bag.

Today, I tried it when my kids came home from school expressing the usual after school hunger. My daughter’s initial grumbles (the boy never grumbles about any food suggestions. He’ll try anything, once) rapidly turned to praise, and the prep was freakishly easy. (Method below photo.)

How to make GBYKWI:

  • Put a small amount of Grapeseed oil in a heated (medium heat) frying pan. (Under 2 TBSP, if I had to guess. You could use olive oil, but then I’d probably start with a cold pan.)
  • Pour frozen green beans into the pan.
  • Fry those green beans up until they’re bright green with a crispy brown outside, and the pan is steaming.
  • Scoop beans out of the pan and into a serving bowl. (If possible, use a vintage one your mom gave you that brings you back to your childhood! See photo above!)
  • Give your sea salt grinder a couple of evenly-distributed cranks
  • Ring the dinner bell. No forks or individual plates needed.
  • Try not to compete with your kids for the green beans – you can always make more!

    1. This sounds yummy! I keep hearing about grapeseed oil–you can even get Grapeseed Oil Vegenaise (vegan mayo)–and more and more I’m thinking I should invest some tastebuds in it.
And we just so happen to have a bag of frozen green beans in the house.

Hooray! I’m happy to hear it worked out so well!

We have renamed these “Green Bean Fries.” They are a serious crowd pleaser! Thanks again, Auntie Winny!
